This open forum will be an informal mix between actors and directors.
 
Discussion topics include how actors can market to directors and producers of indie films that they’re available and ready to work. Directors attending will include the filmmakers whose short films will be screening at this year’s festival.
 
Actors – here’s your chance to question directors about how to connect with them when it comes to indie films casting, performance, marketing or anything else.
 
Directors - here’s an opportunity to discover and network with LA’s wealth of acting talent.

The Business of Film: What You Need To Know

How can you convert passion to profession?
 
This panel will feature key Industry members, bringing their variety of experience and perspectives to the subject of the ‘business’ side of the film industry. It seems that nowadays being a great storyteller and talented creative is not enough: filmmakers need to act as their own business development managers and learn business acumen and skills in order to forge a successful career. The panel will focus on the current industry climate, the prospects for emerging filmmakers and the key things filmmakers should know if they are determined to make it in Hollywood.

MORGAN FAUST
WRITER/ DIRECTOR
Morgan Faust is half of brother/sister due BroSis, a writing/directing team with a gift for telling thrilling stories with heart. A graduate of Columbia University’s MFA program, she has worked in film for over 15 years, wearing every hat on set. In 2012 BroSis’ first feature script “STRANGER COMES” won CANON'S BIG VISION EMPTY WALLET NATIONAL PITCH COMPETITION, landing them a job writing the dinosaur thriller "REAWAKENING" for Headquarters. They are currently writing a teen actioner with SXSW Grand Jury Winner ADAM LEON (director, "GIMME THE LOOT"), and developing a new series with the WB. Max and Morgan have won numerous awards at film festivals across the world with their shorts, “TICK TOCK TIME EMPORIUM” and “WHISPERS”, and have reached over a million eyeballs with their music videos and recent comedy series “NO PROBLEM” on FunnyorDie.com.

Rachel Feldman is a director and writer. After directing more than 60 hours of broadcast television, Rachel is now writing features and pilots. LED BETTER, about Fair Pay activist Lilly Ledbetter, won the Athena List and is currently being packaged for a 2016 summer shoot with Rachel directing. THE UNDERNEATH just won the 2015 WGA Drama Queens Spec Pilot Award. Rachel is a vocal activist for women directors in Hollywood and a recent chair of the DGA Women's Steering Committee. So you made a short film. Now what?

With so many short films being made these days, and filmmaking even easier to undertake thanks to the advance in personal technology, it can be hard to stand out from the crowd. This panel will bring together industry professionals who can provide insight and experience on the process of getting films out in front of audiences and the many ways that now can be done. It will cover the need to know basics on how to go about acquiring an audience, as well as providing discussion on the ever-evolving state of distribution and the power of marketing.

SARAH MOSHMAN
EMMY-AWARD WINNING DIRECTOR OF THE EMPOWERMENT PROJECT
Two years ago after becoming more aware of how women are portrayed in all forms of media, Sarah Moshman decided to take matters into her own hands and make a documentary about extraordinary women in America whose stories aren't being told. After raising $28,590 on Kickstarter, she set out on a month long cross-country road trip from LA to NYC with an all female film crew in tow to interview 17 inspirational women from all walks of life. The result is the inspiring feature-length documentary The Empowerment Project which was completed in May of 2014. Sarah was also able to negotiate a distribution deal with Indieflix whereby she tours the film around the US, educating young women and schools.

Maytal Gilboa is the CEO of Emet Entertainment, a management, production, and comic book publishing company focused on breaking new female talent into the Entertainment industry. Emet Comics is announcing its first slate of comic books by female creators on Monday, May 4th. Prior to Emet, she worked at ReelFX Creative Studios and William Morris Endeavor Entertainment. A native to Los Angeles, she is a graduate of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts.
 
CAMERON MOIR
WRITER/ PRODUCER, AN ENGLISHMAN IN LA
Cameron Moir is an Actor, Writer and Producer whose professional work includes performances on stage, television, and in feature films. Moir graduated from the prestigious Stella Adler Studio of Acting where he learned to perfect his method acting techniques. Cameron has produced three webseries, one of which being his own Englishman In LA which won several awards at The LA Web Series Festival. The project was funded through a successful kickstarter campaign and by engaging brand sponsorship.
 
RACHEL GOLDBERG
WRITER/ DIRECTOR
Rachel is a writer/director whose most recent short film, MUTED, sold to HBO. Her previous short film, NEIGHBORS, created through AFI's Directing Workshop for Women, has been developed into the feature, TRANSFORMATION AWAITS. She is working with Triangle Road Entertainment to produce the feature and is attached to direct. Her work has been supported by Film Independent and through the Sundance Financing Initiative. She is currently a professor at the Dodge Film School at Chapman University.

MAKING YOUR MARK WITH YOUR SHORT FILM

Short films are a calling card for filmmakers and many aspire to make a feature as a next step in their career.
